Boosting Cement Throughput by 40 Percent at NZIC

New Zealand Independent Cement (NZIC) partnered with Dinnissen to significantly increase cement production throughput, improve process reliability, and strengthen resilience in a highly competitive and supply-constrained market.

As Dinnissen’s local partner in New Zealand, Advanced Packaging Systems (APS) plays a key role in supporting NZIC and other local businesses with access to world-leading process technology, along with local service and engineering support.

NZIC’s Challenge

NZIC set out to boost cement production capacity while maintaining product quality and operational continuity. With demand rising and supply chains under pressure, the company needed a solution that would both lift throughput and reduce risk in its production process.

The existing setup left limited room to scale, and any unplanned downtime had direct commercial consequences. NZIC was looking for a partner that understood bulk handling, powders, and complex process integration, and could translate that into a reliable, future‑proof installation.

The Installed Solution

To unlock additional capacity, Dinnissen engineered a tailored installation focused on higher throughput, accurate handling, and robust operation for cement processing. The solution combined proven Dinnissen equipment with smart integration, optimising material flow, dosing accuracy, and system uptime.

Key design principles included:

  • Gentle but efficient handling of cement to protect product quality while increasing flow rates.
  • Bulk bag unloading and a dense phase conveying system with extensive pneumatic transport.
  • Intelligent process control and automation to keep the line stable at higher loads and simplify day‑to‑day operation.
  • Layout and equipment choices that make maintenance, inspection, and cleaning more accessible, reducing stoppages and service windows.

Measurable Results for NZIC

After commissioning, NZIC achieved a cement throughput increase of around 40 percent, giving the business a step‑change in productive capacity without compromising quality. This uplift allows NZIC to respond faster to customer demand and large projects while making better use of existing infrastructure and labour.

In addition to the capacity gain, the new setup improved process reliability and predictability, which is critical in continuous and high-volume operations. The combination of higher uptime and more stable performance has strengthened NZIC’s position in the New Zealand cement market and improved resilience against supply disruptions.
