Case Study: Custom Solution for Large Volume Powder Sizing and Transfer
APS partnered with Hanningfield and ATI Engineering to deliver a custom, automated solution for a pharmaceutical client facing increased demand for their wound care products. The client needed to efficiently size and transfer large volumes of dry, sometimes lumpy, pharmaceutical ingredients into 10,000-litre holding vessels, while maintaining hygiene and minimising manual handling.
The new system integrates a Hanningfield Sack Tip Station, Shredder, and Uni-Vac vacuum conveyors to automate the process from bag opening and powder sizing to dust-tight transfer into four stainless-steel storage tanks. This upgrade replaced a labour-intensive manual process, dramatically increasing productivity, improving hygiene, and ensuring compliance with strict GMP standards.
The result, significantly improved operational efficiency, safer working conditions, and the ability to handle single 30,000-litre batches, all with easy integration and readily available spare parts.
